Nocturnal was built around the idea of modern vampirism as fantasy made intimate, shaped entirely around the presence and visual world of the model. Nocturnal began with casting, where I scouted Karu and developed the concept in response to her distinct aesthetic, allowing her to become both the starting point and the centre of the narrative.
The visual language leans into darkness, softness, and allure, balancing gothic references with a sense of closeness and control. Rather than an exaggerated or theatrical vampire, the character feels personal and self-possessed, existing somewhere between dream and reality. Light and shadow are used to sculpt the face and body, creating a quiet intensity that draws focus to expression and mood.
Casting was integral to the outcome. By building the concept around Karu, the project feels cohesive and instinctive, with styling, hair and make-up, and image-making all responding to her energy. The result is a world that feels fully embodied rather than imposed
I led the creative and casting direction, as well as the overall production, bringing together the team and shaping the project from initial idea through to final execution. Working closely with the photographers and wider team, I ensured the outcome remained aligned with the original vision, resulting in a series of images that feel atmospheric, intimate, and character-driven.
