The casting for Starry Night was approached with both technical precision and conceptual sensitivity. As the garment by Pauliina Pitkänen was constructed to exact measurements, the model needed to align closely with the designer’s specifications to ensure the integrity of the silhouette and fit.

Beyond this, the casting prioritised a “painterly” quality — a face and presence that felt soft, expressive, and almost reminiscent of classical portraiture. This was essential in translating the visual language of Starry Night, where the garment operates not just as clothing, but as an artistic surface. The model’s features, movement, and stillness needed to hold the same depth and quiet intensity as a painted subject, allowing the piece to be perceived as both fashion and artwork.

This balance between strict physical requirements and atmospheric presence was central to the casting decision, ensuring the final outcome remained true to both the craftsmanship of the garment and the conceptual narrative of the project.
